Application Criteria

In order to be considered for a scholarship, all documents and requested information must be completed and provided.

Scholarships are available to any player currently carded to a junior team in the province of Alberta, and currently enrolled in a recognized post-secondary school is Alberta. Also, a player who has played for a junior hockey team in Alberta, but has since graduated from junior hockey due to the age eligibility rule, can apply for a scholarship. The criteria is that they must be enrolled in a recognized school in Alberta, and they are eligible to apply after junior age eligibility has been reached for each year that they played a minimum of 30 games of junior hockey for a team in Alberta.

What are the basic criteria for applying?

1. Friends Scholarship applicants must be enrolled in a recognized post-secondary education program in Alberta, and taking a minimum of 3 courses per semester during the year of application. They must be currently a carded player with a junior hockey team registered in Alberta, or having played junior hockey in Alberta, and are now attending a post secondary school in Alberta. Applicants are eligible for scholarship application after graduation from junior eligibility for each year of full tenure ( 30 games minimum per year) with a registered junior team in Alberta.

2. Alberta Junior Athletic Award applicants must be a Canadian citizen and an Alberta resident.  They must be a participant in a designated sports team  ( Alberta Junior Hockey ), be enrolled as a full-time student at a post-secondary institution in Alberta and have achieved a grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale in the previous term of study.  (see the application document for a complete list of Eligibility Criteria)
