In order to be considered for a scholarship, all documents and requested information must be completed and provided.
Scholarships are available to any player currently carded to a junior team in the province of Alberta, and currently enrolled in a recognized post-secondary school is Alberta. Also, a player who has played for a junior hockey team in Alberta, but has since graduated from junior hockey due to the age eligibility rule, can apply for a scholarship. The criteria is that they must be enrolled in a recognized school in Alberta, and they are eligible to apply after junior age eligibility has been reached for each year that they played a minimum of 30 games of junior hockey for a team in Alberta.
What are the basic criteria for applying?
1. Friends Scholarship applicants must be enrolled in a recognized post-secondary education program in Alberta, and taking a minimum of 3 courses per semester during the year of application. They must be currently a carded player with a junior hockey team registered in Alberta, or having played junior hockey in Alberta, and are now attending a post secondary school in Alberta. Applicants are eligible for scholarship application after graduation from junior eligibility for each year of full tenure ( 30 games minimum per year) with a registered junior team in Alberta.
2. Alberta Junior Athletic Award applicants must be a Canadian citizen and an Alberta resident. They must be a participant in a designated sports team ( Alberta Junior Hockey ), be enrolled as a full-time student at a post-secondary institution in Alberta and have achieved a grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale in the previous term of study. What are the time frames for applications (2024 – 2025 Season)
Applications are open for the next round of scholarships is December 30, 2024.
The deadline for scholarships is January 16, 2025.
All applications (mailed in or online) must be received by 11:59pm January 16, 2025
How many scholarships can I win?
You are allowed to win one scholarship from the Friends of Alberta Junior Hockey each season.
Can I apply both online and by mail?
Yes, you can. Remember, the online application gets you access to a different set of scholarships than the mail-in application. You are still limited to winning only one scholarship, but you can apply for both types.
Do I need to submit a separate online application for each scholarship?
No, by applying online, you’re considered for all scholarships in the category.
What is the difference between online and mail-in applications?
Friends of AJH has a partnership for the Alberta Junior Athletic Award, and the information required on the manual form is for our partners. The Friends of AJH named scholarships are fundraised and presented solely by our committee and board, and our information requirements are unique and possible in the online form
